Equipped by the Spirit
Overview of Exodus 36:8- 39:43
We see now that the Hebrews have given from a free heart and have met all need with overwhelming generosity so much so that they were instructed to stop. They had realized the grace of God in forgiving them of their idolatry and so they gave freely from a generous heart. It is in Gods very nature to be generous so we should be also. Now that all of the need has been met we see the construction of the tabernacle in detail because detail counts to God and His kingdom. We see throughout chapter 39, the phrase "As the Lord commanded". The people are doing exactly as they were told by the Spirit of God John 14:20-21. These things in the tabernacle are a direct reflection or shadow of heaven and ultimately are a representation of Jesus Himself Revelation 4:18, Revelation 5:8. We can only obtain eternal life in heaven through Him. God came down from heaven and now has tabernacled with us. The tent in the desert was the point of contact between God and Man. Now Jesus Himself, the incarnate Son of God is the point of contact between God and man John 1:14.
1. Why is detail important to God?
2. How can we seek the Spirit of God?
- What has God commanded you to do personally?
3. What has the Spirit empowered you to do?
God has called the Hebrews to build the tabernacle as a place for Him to meet with His people. Now because of the cross of Jesus as Christians the Spirit of The Lord dwells within us and we are now His temple. When we listen to the spirit within us He will guide and instruct us on how to build His kingdom John 16:13. The big idea is that all gifts and talents God gives to the believer are important and should be used for the glory of God Ephesians 4:8-13, 1 Corinthians 12:18-27. God fills His people with the knowledge and skill to build, teach and lead 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. These gifts are given by the Spirit of God to accomplish His mission. In the Bible when Jesus speaks of the Holy Spirit He speaks of him as a person not a force. He is equal in essence to the Father and the Son just with a different role John 14:17-17, Romans 8:26-27, 1 Corinthians 12:11. The Holy Spirit has given us gifts in order for us to give glory to God and edify the church. The work God has set before us can only be accomplished by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
